A governorship aspirant on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ondo State, Dr Paul Akintelure is dead.
Akintelure died in the early hours of Tuesday in Lagos after a brief illness.
Akintelure, a medical doctor hailed from Igbotako in Okitipupa Local Government Area of the state.
One of Akintelure’s family members who simply mentioned his name as Akintunde, confirmed on Tuesday in Okitipupa that the politician died in Lagos after a brief illness.
“We learnt he died this morning in Lagos after a brief illness,” he said.
Akintelure was the running mate to the late former governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu during the 2012 governorship election on the platform of the defunct Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN).
Meanwhile, an aspirant on the platform of the All Progressives Congress(APC) in the forthcoming governorship election in Ondo, Mr Wale Akinterinwa has suspended his political activities over Akintelure’s death.
A statement in Akure by the Spokesperson of the Wale Akinterinwa Campaign Organisation, Mr Segun Ajiboye said that Akinterinwa’s political activities which were expected to start on Tuesday had been put on hold.
”The campaign activities earlier planned to kick off today, Tuesday, March 26, 2024, with a praise worship in my country home in Ile-Oluji, has been suspended in honour of a friend and comrade.
“I am saddened by the news of the passing of a friend and comrade.
“Following this sad incident, I have decided to suspend all political activities of our campaign organisation.
“I pray God to console his family, friends and the APC in the state and to give them the fortitude to bear this great loss,” the statement said.
