Huawei Technologies Company has pledged its commitment to bridge the digital divide in Nigeria’s ICT industry by bringing latest technologies into the country through its various programmes.
Ms Melissa Chen, Director, Service Delivery for Huawei Technologies Company Nigeria Ltd., made the remarks during the 2021 Huawei ICT Job Fair for Nigerian students at the Ahmadu Bello University (ABU) Zaria on Thursday.
Melissa described the Job Fair as “an exciting moment” for Huawei, adding that the event was the second time the company had launched its ICT Job Fair on campus in ABU.
She, therefore, assured that the ICT company would shape the future of the ICT industry in Nigeria by bridging the digital divide and bringing latest technologies into the industry.
“I see a great hope for the development of ICT in Nigeria”, Melissa said, just as she thanked the Vice-Chancellor and staff of ABU for promoting the growth of ICT in the institution.
She noted that Nigeria attached importance to the development and basic education of ICT.
According to her, Huawei will continue to support Nigerian students to learn the latest technologies through its various programmes.
Melissa said that since Nigeria was fast developing in industrialisation, infrastructure and economy in general, ICT remained one of the key factors for the country’s progress.
According to her, there are so much students can offer in the ICT industry because a lot of Nigerian students have shown their capabilities.
“Last year’s Huawei ICT Competition, Ahmadu Bello University, University of Port Harcourt and University of Ibadan students won the Global Grand Prize in the Network and Cloud Track and Second Prize in the Network Track.”
“It is a feat that had never been achieved by any country in the competition,” Melissa said.
In his remarks, Vice-Chancellor of ABU, Prof. Kabiru Bala thanked the global ICT company for its support towards empowering Nigerian students through the use of Huawei ICT solutions.
The vice-chancellor congratulated the students that participated in the qualification test and interview session and urged them to be more proficient in ICT
The participating students at the Fair, first went through a qualification test, and later participated in an interview session anchored by a team of interviewers from the ICT company and its partners.
