The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has issued a stern warning to the public regarding a fraudulent scheme targeting desperate Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) candidates under the pretence of offering exam rescheduling services.
In an official statement released by JAMB’s Public Communication Advisor, Dr. Fabian Benjamin, the board dissociated itself from a fraudulent Sterling Bank account—8520641017, operating under the misleading name “Copyrightwriter Personal J Rescheduling Flw.”
“This account is being used to scam unsuspecting candidates by demanding ₦15,700 for fake ‘rescheduling services,” Dr. Benjamin said.
“We categorically state that JAMB has no affiliation whatsoever with this account or the individuals behind it.”
The board clarified that no payment is required for rescheduling under any circumstance, and candidates who missed their exams due to personal reasons are not eligible for rescheduling.
It said that only candidates verified to have experienced biometric verification failures are eligible for rescheduled exams, and at no cost.
JAMB further called on Sterling Bank to take immediate action against the fraudulent account and cooperate with security agencies to identify and prosecute those involved.
The board confirmed that it has reported the incident to relevant authorities and that investigations are underway.
“We urge Sterling Bank to take swift action and help bring these fraudsters to justice. JAMB has reported this scam to security agencies and is actively investigating those involved.
“We advise all candidates and the general public to stay vigilant. If in doubt, contact JAMB directly via official channels. Do not fall victim to these cheap, criminal tactics.
“Protect yourself. Spread the word. Report any suspicious activities immediately.”
This warning comes amid ongoing efforts by JAMB to ensure the integrity of the UTME process and protect candidates from exploitation.
