The Attah Sisters Helping Hand (ASHH) Foundation Institute for Bully Management and Peace Building Education in Bauchi affiliate of Atrium Society Colorado USA has graduated 115 peace counselors and ambassadors of bully management and peacebuilding.
The combined graduation ceremony of 2021 to 2023 took place Thursday in Bauchi.
Provost of ASHH Foundation Comfort Attah said bullying has become a challenge in society especially as it relates to school children.
“Children are been picked at because of their color, tribe, background, and structures leaving many traumatized.”
Attah said the Institution has helped establish 26 peace clubs in schools as well as reactivated guidance and counseling units in schools to help mitigate bullying in schools.
“You are now trainers of anti-bully and peace ambassadors in your communities.”
Bauchi State Commissioner of Education Jamila Dahiru bullying is intimidating, coercing, hurting, and leaves the victim traumatized.
It is on this note the government and other relevant agencies are creating awareness and putting measures to make sure that the menace of bullying stops especially among students where it is most prevalent.
“The Ministry of Education frowns at the act which is why there is a policy on No Bully in schools.”
She added that heads of schools have been directed to reactivate the guidance and counseling units to help address this menace in schools.
“The school environment must be safe, secure and conducive to ensure that students grow morally, socially, academically and physically.”
Dahiru noted that the Ministry will ensure the implementation of the anti-bully policy and will also leverage the already established peace clubs in schools to expand to all schools in the state.
Speaker Bauchi State House of Assembly Abubakar Suleiman said the house will liaise with relevant stakeholders to come up with a child bullying law to protect victims of a bully.
“As legislators, we will help create awareness on bullying and peacebuilding in our communities.”
ASHH Foundation currently runs four schools that include skills acquisition, mentorship, media and communication, and Bully Management and peacebuilding.
