ASHENEWS reports that the Nigerian Immigration Service (NIS) has issued a stern warning to foreigners to desist from participating in the 2023 general elections.
The NIS stated that it has placed its personnel on high alert as the 2023 general elections approach to prevent non-Nigerians from voting.
Speaking during an election retreat organized for Zonal Coordinators and Command Comptrollers of the NIS on Wednesday, the Comptroller General of the service, Isa Jere warned that any foreigner who tries to participate in the elections would be jailed.
Jere stated that the service has carried out enough enlightenment of foreigners on this rule before now.
He noted that the service would not accommodate any act that would go against the country’s electoral act.
“Adequate arrangements are in place for processing and issuance of visas and clearance of foreign observers for election monitoring at all our international airports.
“The NIS is adequately prepared to “Stoplist” any person found contravening electoral laws,” he said.
The workshop, taking place in Abuja will allow participants to strategize on securing the country’s borders in the interest of a peaceful general election.
