The Zamfara State Sexual Assault Referral Center has recorded 366 cases, including rape and domestic violence.
The medical director of the center, Dr Aminat Hassan disclosed this during a round table organized by International Human Rights Commission, to commemorate the Day in the State.
Dr Aminat lamented that the referral center recorded 366 cases mostly on sexual assault, rape and domestic violence since it was established in 2019.
According to her, the cases when fully established were referred to relevant agencies for necessary action.
“Currently, we have suspended our service as a result of challenges we are encountering including lack of office accommodation”.
She maintained that Zamfara has only one referral center and called on government to establish sexual assault referral centers across the three senatorial zones.
“Many of the cases involved young children with a three-month old as the youngest case recorded.”
Those at event included officials of the State International human rights commission headed by Mr Abdullahi, officials from the Ministry of Women and Children Affairs, the media and civil society groups working on gender-based violence in the state.
