Police in Lagos have confirmed the killing of Demola Akinloye, son of the Ojomu of Ajiran Land, Oba Tijani Akinloye, by gunmen in the Lekki area of the state.
The tragic incident occurred on Sunday around 12:30 p.m. at Chevron Drive, Lekki, Lagos, when Akinloye was attacked by four gunmen. The gunmen, who remain unidentified, reportedly shot and stabbed Akinloye to death while he was driving his Toyota Corolla.
The spokesperson of the Lagos State Police Command, Benjamin Hundeyin, who confirmed the incident on Tuesday, said the police received a distress call from the area shortly after the incident.
“The scene has been visited, and one expended cartridge was recovered. The corpse has been moved to a morgue in Ajah for preservation and autopsy,” Hundeyin said.
The police spokesperson added that the case would be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Panti-Yaba, for further investigation. He assured that the police are working diligently to apprehend those responsible for the crime.
The killing has sparked fear and panic among residents of the community, leading many to flee the area in search of safety. The sudden and violent nature of the attack has left the local community in shock, with questions arising about the motive behind the murder.
As investigations continue, the police have urged the public to remain calm and cooperate with law enforcement agencies by providing any information that could lead to the arrest of the culprits.
This incident adds to the growing concerns about security in Lagos, especially in affluent areas like Lekki, where violent crimes have been on the rise in recent times. The state government and security agencies are expected to intensify efforts to protect residents and ensure that justice is served.
