The Indigenous People of North West (IPNW), has called on the leadership of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) to zone the position of the Senate President in the 10th National Assembly (NASS) to the North West zone of the country.
The National Convener, Haruna Aminu who made the call in a statement made available to newsmen on Friday, also made a case for Senator Jibrin Barau.
According to the group, the North West zone had been a major player in the success and vigour of the ruling party since it took over power in 2015, maintaining further that the zone deserves the nation’s Senate Presidency in the interest of fairness, equity and Justice.
“The zone, whose people are known for absolute loyalty since the formation of the APC, has the highest voting strength for winning presidential elections, in the same way that was recently recorded in the February 25 presidential election. It gave the President-elect the highest number of votes compared to other zones in the country. This means that we can do more if given the opportunity to produce the next Senate President of Nigeria; our contributions have been so loud.
“Zoning the Senate Presidency to the North West means compensating the zone for its commitment and loyalty as well as setting the stage for the APC to continue in 2027,” the group observed.
The statement appealed “for the solidarity from all political parties that made it to the 10th Senate to support the North West geo political zone to actualize this project for the overall good of the nation as a capable and dependable hand has been identified for the job.
“We the Indigenous People of North West see more possibilities, capacity and competence in Sen. Jibrin Barau. We call on all Senators-elect from all parts of the nation to support the aspiration of this great son of the North West,” the Convener enthused.
