Former National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, has quietly returned to Nigeria after spending about one month in the United Kingdom.
The former governor of Kano State, who resigned as APC Chairman in June citing health concerns, was said to have traveled to London for medical treatment amid speculation over his wellbeing.
Reliable sources confirmed that Ganduje arrived in Nigeria on Wednesday, August 20, 2025, slipping back into the country without fanfare. His return followed weeks of uncertainty, during which several reports claimed he was rushed to a London hospital in critical condition.
Those reports, however, were strongly denied by his family and aides. His Chief of Staff, Mohammed Garba, had earlier dismissed the rumours, insisting that the politician was in stable condition and had only traveled for a brief medical check-up and rest.
While Ganduje’s absence stirred speculation, it also attracted political attention, particularly when he missed President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s condolence visit to Kano State in July. The ex-governor explained through his aides that his London trip had been scheduled before the President’s visit and that logistical constraints made it impossible for him to return on time.
His quiet re-entry into the country comes less than two months after he vacated his position as APC National Chairman. Despite his resignation on health grounds, Ganduje was soon after appointed Chairman of the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN), a development that drew mixed reactions from the public and political observers.
With his return, attention is likely to focus on how actively he will resume public duties, particularly his new role at FAAN, amid ongoing debates about his political relevance and health status.
