The Coalition of Shiroro Associations (COSA) has raised alarm over influx of fleeing bandits, currently being chased from Zamfara and other neighbouring states, to Shiroro some villages in Shiroro local government area of Niger state.
A statement by the spokesperson of the Coalition, Salis Sabo made available to ASHENEWS on Sunday, said “there is influx of large number of terrorists in some villages of Shiroro local government of Niger state.
“The terrorists are trooping into some villages on motorcycles with masked faces. They are believed to have flown in to the local government from Zamfara or other adjoining troubled states,” the statement reads.
The group, which gave the name of the villages as Galadiman Kogo, Zama, Magami, Maganda, Palali, Iburo, Chukuba and Dnasapa said, “the situation has caused fear and apprehension among the people of those areas.”
The Coalition called of the state and federal governments to ensure “coordinated military operation across the states so that Shiroro villages do not become haven for the bandits.
Also in a telephone conversation, the Chairman of the group, Usman Ibrahim said “the most viable way to fight the bandits is deployment of aircrafts to the thick forests of Shiroro, which is their hideouts.
“The terrain of Shiroro local government is not easy. There are no motorable roads that security agencies can easily access to reach their hideouts. There is an extent that communication can be used to relay information,” Ibrahim said.
