Dr Abubakar Danladi, Zamfara State Coordinator of the NGO, disclosed this while presenting the award certificate of the grant to Government Technical College, GTC, Kaura-Namoda on Friday.”Since last six months, the world has been battling with COVID-19 pandemic which affected almost sectors of human lives.
“Government recently approved that some categories of students at exit classes in secondary schools, should resume to write their Senior Secondary School Examinations, SSCE.
“The DPRC as responsible organisation felt that the education sector is very important.
“It came up with very future programme with funding from open society foundation, to support some selected schools across the country.
“Initially, we called for proposal among the schools, GTC Kaura Namoda is among the 30 schools selected for the country”, Danladi said.
He said that the grant is targeted at two major things:
“One for safety of the students returning to schools for examinations.
“We want to make sure that students are properly save to ensure that all necessary measures to improve safety especially use of hand sanitizer, face masks among others.
“Another issue is to ensure that to support extra moral classes for the students in exit classes.
“We are trying to see, how do we support the students to prepare better for their examinations especially as they stay long at home”, he added.
According to him, the total grant is N366,000 to be given to GTC Kaura-Namoda, but we are giving the money in three instalments, we are now giving N100,000 as first instalment for now.
“Among 30 schools to be supported,10 would be selected for auditing”, he explained.
In his remark, the Director, Technical and Vocational Education of the State Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation, Alhaji Mani Ango, who represented the ministry at the occasion, described the gesture as a welcome development.
Ango said the ministry embarked on partnership with the various stakeholders to promote science and technology education in the state.
He said, the ministry in collaboration with Federal government, is coming up with a special projects to network all the state with ICT.
The Principal of the College, Alhaji Sirinbai Kabiru thanked the center for the intervention.
“We are happy to receive you this morning, we are indeed grateful to God for our college to be part of the beneficiaries of this project.
“We are giving assurance that the funds would be used judiciously”, Kabiru said.
