ASHENEWS reports that the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has arrested a manager of one of the commercial banks in Abuja, for hoarding the redesigned naira notes.
According to the EFCC, the manager was arrested on Monday after a monitoring team from the EFCC discovered N29 million in the bank’s vault.
A statement issued on Monday by the EFCC said that the act points to sabotage of the federal government’s policy by dome commercial banks.
“This discovery, which indicates sabotage of the government’s monetary policy by some banks, was made by the EFCC in continuation of the ongoing surveillance and visit to banks across the country to access their vaults and verify whether they were deliberately refusing to dispense the redesigned Naira notes.
“More than five bank branches were covered today by the operatives in Abuja. Similar exercises are ongoing in Zonal Commands across the country.
The EFCC urged Nigerians who find it difficult to access their funds from the banks to report to the EFCC for immediate action.
“The operation will continue until normalcy is restored to the banking system.”Nigerians finding it difficult to access their funds at any bank and suspects foul play should contact the commission, for immediate intervention,” the statement said.
