In what could be dramatic twist that defines the ongoing tussle over Kano’s revered throne, both the 16th Emir of Kano, Muhammadu Sanusi II, and the 15th Emir, Aminu Ado Bayero, have each appointed a new Galadima, the emirate’s most senior traditional advisor.
Emir Sanusi II appointed Munir Sanusi Bayero, the current district head of Bichi, as Galadiman Kano in a ceremony held at the main palace in Kofar Mata. In a parallel move, Emir Bayero crowned Sunusi Lamido Ado Bayero with the same title in a separate ceremony at the other palace.
The title of Galadima is one of the most prestigious in Kano’s traditional hierarchy, responsible for offering critical guidance to the emir and playing a pivotal role in palace affairs. This dual investiture raises eyebrows and fuels the perception of a deepening rift in the ancient emirate’s leadership.

Wamban Kano – Kabir Tijjani Hashim, District Head of Nassarawa
Turakin Kano – Mahmud Ado Bayero, District Head of Gwale
Tafidan Kano – Adam Lamido Sanusi
Yariman Kano – Ahmad Abbas Sanusi
These appointments reflect Sanusi’s renewed efforts to strengthen his hold on the traditional structure amidst an atmosphere charged with symbolism, loyalty, and historic rivalry.
As the dust settles, many are watching closely to see how Kano’s intricate royal legacy navigates this unprecedented chapter of dual authority and parallel appointments.
