The Coalition of Farmers Network (COFAN) has called on Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda, the new National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), to support policies that will help women and young people succeed in farming.
The group also urged Yilwatda to create systems that will improve farming activities, help farmers add value to their products, and make it easier for them to reach markets.
Dr. Abubakar Musa, the National President of COFAN, said agriculture is still the backbone of Nigeria’s economy.
He expressed hope that the new APC chairman would support policies and programmes that directly benefit rural communities, small farmers, and agribusinesses.
Dr. Musa praised the APC for choosing Yilwatda, calling it a bold and strategic decision.
“We fully support the appointment of Prof. Yilwatda as the APC national chairman,” he said.
“At a time when Nigeria is working hard to grow its economy and achieve food security, it is encouraging to see someone with strong leadership skills, grassroots experience, and national knowledge take on this role.”
He added, “We believe his leadership will not only bring unity to the party but also give new hope to important sectors like agriculture.”
Dr. Musa assured that COFAN is ready to work with the APC under Yilwatda’s leadership to promote sustainable farming across Nigeria.
According to the News Agency of Nigeria, COFAN is a major umbrella body representing millions of small-scale farmers, agricultural entrepreneurs, cooperatives, and commodity groups throughout the country.
