ASHENEWS reports that the Catholic Relief Services (CRS) has given food and non-food assistance to 300 households affected by the insecurity in Shiroro and Paikoro local government areas of Niger state.
The CRS which is a nonprofit organization owned by the Conference of American Catholic Bishops gave this assistance through a one-off cash transfer of N39,571 to the displaced households.
The Coordinator, Justice, Development and Peace Commission (JDPC) of the Catholic Diocese of Minna, Reverend Father Bahago Dauda made the distribution on behalf of the Catholic Relief Services.
According to him, the project was done under the project titled “Emergency response for herders/farmers conflict in Niger State” adding that the project was situated at Gwada/Egwa Ward of Shiroro and Adunu Ward of Paikoro.
Dauda explained that the beneficiaries were selected based on the vulnerability scale adding that the criteria for selection include places with IDP camps or villages that have been completely ransacked.
The beneficiaries expressed appreciation to the organization for remembering them. They said that they have been battling hunger, trauma, and poverty due to the insecurity that has bedevilled their communities.
One of the beneficiaries from Gwada Community of Shiroro applauded the transparency of the project saying that it was devoid of tribalism, religious bias, and any form of favouritism.
