Former Minister of Communications and retired military officer, Major General Tajudeen Olanrewaju (Rtd), has expressed deep sorrow over the death of Nigeria’s former President, Muhammadu Buhari, describing it as “heartbreaking.”
In a statement released by his media office on Sunday, July 13, 2025, Olanrewaju, who once served as General Officer Commanding (GOC) 3 Armoured Division in Jos—a post previously held by Buhari—paid a heartfelt tribute to his late senior officer.
“The death of Major General Muhammadu Buhari is heartbreaking. He served his country to the best of his ability,” Olanrewaju said. “He fought to keep the country together during the Nigerian–Biafran Civil War and gave a good account of himself.”
Reflecting on his personal experience, the former minister recalled how President Buhari, during his time in office, granted him a presidential pardon—restoring his full status as a retired Major General and restoring his dignity.
“I’m grateful to the Almighty Allah for granting me a presidential pardon through him and his generosity,” he added.
Olanrewaju offered prayers for Buhari’s soul, saying: “May Allah SWT forgive his sins and receive his soul into Al-Jannah Firdaus.”
President Muhammadu Buhari passed away in a London hospital on Sunday, July 13, 2025. His death has sparked an outpouring of tributes from across Nigeria and beyond, recognizing his decades of service in both military and civilian capacities.
