The President-General of the Nigerian Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs (NSCIA), Sultan Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar, has announced that Ramadan fast will commence on Saturday, March 1, 2025.
The declaration follows the sighting of the new crescent moon in various parts of Nigeria on Friday evening, February 28, 2025.
The Sultan, in a live broadcast, confirmed that reports of the moon sighting were received from multiple states, including Sokoto, Borno, Yobe, Zamfara, and Plateau.
The Sultan urged Muslims to utilize this holy month to pray for peace, progress, and prosperity in Nigeria, and to support those in need within their communities.
What is Ramadan?
Ramadan, the ninth month of the Islamic lunar calendar, is a period during which Muslims worldwide engage in fasting from dawn to dusk, accompanied by increased prayer, reflection, and community support.
As Ramadan begins, Muslims are reminded to observe the fast with sincerity and dedication, while also engaging in acts of charity and maintaining harmonious relationships with people of all faiths.
