ASHENEWS reports that bandits in the early hours of Sunday set ablaze a Catholic Priest in Paikoro local government of Niger state, Rev.Fr Isaac Achi.
ASHENEWS gathered that the attack which occurred around 1 am on Sunday also left one of his colleagues with gunshot injuries.
The Niger State Commissioner of Police, CP Ogundele Ayodeji has since confirmed the incident.
According to Ayodeji in a statement by the spokesperson of the command, DSP Wasiu Abiodun said that the bandits set the clerics’ house on fire when they could not gain entrance.
“The bandits reportedly attempted to gain entrance into the residence but seemed difficult, and set the house ablaze, while the said Rev. Father was burnt to dead.
“A colleague of the Rev. Father identified as Father Collins was equally shot in the shoulder while trying to escape from the scene.
“The lifeless body of Father Isaac was recovered while Father Collins was rushed to the hospital for treatment,” the police said in the statement.
The Police added that the bandits had escaped before its personnel attached to Kafin-Korro Division could reach the scene of the incident.
ASHENEWS gathered however that the Police had commenced an investigation to ensure the arrest of the culprits.
