Bandits in a market attacked in Goronyo local government area of in Sokoto state on Sunday, killed over 60 people, Daily Star has reported.
The gunmen who stormed the Goronyo market around 5pm, were reportedly shooting sporadically at traders in a two-hour operation.
They operated without intervention from security agencies, who could not be informed of the attack as a result of telecom shutdown in the area.
Sources from the local government area, who confirmed the development said as at Sunday night, about forty bodies were counted.
Residents of the community however confirmed that 62 bodies were already deposited at Goronyo General Hospital as at Monday morning.
Some relatives who could not wait for the bodies to be deposited at the hospital, took away the bodies of their own for burial.
The sources further said that some people were still missing after attempts to flee from the bandits’ shootings.
