The Nigeria Association of Women Journalists, NAWOJ, has described as barbaric the killings of innocent rice farmers in Zabamari of Mafa local government area of Borno state.
The association, in a statement jointly signed by the national president and secretary, Ladi Bala and Helen Udofa made available to AsheNews on Wednesday also called for collaborative action to fight the scourge.
According to it, “the senseless killings of innocent Nigerians in any part of the country is totally unacceptable and MUST be checked and stopped decisively.”
NAWOJ particularly expressed concerns and says that it is equally saddened by the increasing spate of insecurity and constant threat to lives of Nigerians across the country and therefore calls for renew efforts to make the states particularly the North-east region safe again.
It says the incessant killings have rendered many women to an untimely widowhood life with it’s attendant consequences on the future of their children and the society, a development that spells doom for the future.
NAWAOJ while commiserating with the Government and the good people of Borno State over the callous, inhuman, ugly, unfortunate and unacceptable incident, appeals to Governor Babagana Zulum to employ widows of the deceased to serve as alternative source of income to alleviate their sufferings.
“The association welcomes the Marching Order by President Muhammadu Buhari to the military to take the battle to the enclave of the terrorists.
“Accordingly, the Association appeals to the military and other security agencies to as a matter of National interest and concerns, step up their fight against terrorists and bandits in the country,” the statement reads.
It added that the battle must be won for Nigerians and for a better Nigeria.
