ASHENEWS reports that an association of bankers in Nigeria has threatened an industrial action following attacks on some commercial banks by protesters.
The forum, under the aegis of the National Union of Banks, Insurance and Financial Institutions Employees (NUBIFIE) said that it would be forced to withdraw its services to the public if the safety of its members can not be guaranteed.
A statement made available to newsmen on Wednesday by NUBIFIE’s General Secretary, Mr. Mohammed Sheikh, urged the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) to review its policy on cash withdrawal limitation to alleviate the suffering of the people.
“We, therefore, call on the Central Bank of Nigeria to review the cash withdrawal policy which has affected the business of over 200,000 Point of Sales businesses in Nigeria, “Sheikh said.
ASHENEWS reports that some angry Nigerians have started attacking bank workers in protest of the scarcity of the naira notes in some parts of the country.
In Oyo, some unidentified persons vandalized the banking premises of Access Bank and Wema banks while a similar attack on a First Bank branch in Ogun state was foiled by security operatives.
