Bandits on Wednesday killed 82-year old District Head of Gada, Umar Bawan-Allah, abducted four family members and burnt his palace in Bungudu local government area in Zamfara state.
They also abducted many other people, including women and children in the area.
An indigene of the town, Makau Mohammed told ASHENEWS that, “The bandits came to the town in large numbers and blocked all the roads leading to the town and started shooting sporadically”.
According to him, some of the bandits went into the town while others stood by the roadsides to ensure that nobody escaped in the village.
“The spent several hours in the town, where they searched many houses, took away several items including foodstuffs and money and abducted many people in the town.
“Our district head was shot dead by the bandits because he resisted their attempt to be abducted,” Mohammed further told ASHENEWS, adding that they later set his palace on fire where several items, including his two vehicles were burnt to ashes.
Addressing newsmen Wednesday evening, the commissioner of police CP Ayuba Elkana said police had already deployed Tactical Team to the affected town, to trail of the fleeing bandits.
The CP, who said a police tactical team had rescued nine kidnapped victims added that security operatives were working to ensure the rescue of other victims.
“Nine kidnapped victims were rescued by the tactical team while efforts is ongoing to apprehend the assailants and rescue other victims,” he said.
