ASHENEWS reports that the management of the Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida University Lapai (IBBUL) in Niger state says it is constituting a committee to investigate the alleged involvement of some of its students in cultism.
This followed reports of the arrest of three students by operatives attached to the Niger state Police command.
The police had alleged that the three suspects who claimed to be students of the university confessed their involvement after they were arrested in Lapai.
Baba Akote, the university’s Deputy Registrar, Information in a statement issued on Thursday said that the committee will authenticate the claim made by the police.
“The Vice-Chancellor, Professor Abu Kasim Adamu has since set up a credible committee to look into the fact of the matter.
“He also assured that appropriate measures will be taken by the management after the investigation, which will certainly serve as a deterrent to others.”
The statement added that the university management pledged to strengthen collaboration with all relevant security agencies to eradicate cultism on the campus.
“The general public, especially parents are advised to remain calm and always monitor the movement of their wards,” it added.
