Niger State Governor, Umaru Bago has announced that all vice-chairmanship positions in the forthcoming local government elections will be occupied by women.
The governor made this known in a statement issued on Thursday by his Special Adviser on Print Media, Aisha Wakaso.
Wakaso, who described Bago as a consistent advocate for gender inclusivity, expressed the governors desire to fill the existing gap between men and women especially in leadership positions in the state.
“This is not just about fulfilling a quota; it is about recognizing the strength, resilience, and intelligence of our women,.
“Women have the capacity, and they should be given a chance. When included in governance, they bring balance, innovation, and a unique perspective that is crucial for development,” the statement said.
The statement therefore called on stakeholders, particularly of the All Progressives Congress (APC), to support the initiative in the interest of inclusive governance.
He governor further assured Nigerlites that his administration remains committed to supporting women to participate actively in the governance and decision-making processes.
