The Imole Progressive Network (IPN), under the leadership of Engr. Mike Adeyanju, has congratulated Nigerians, particularly the people of Ondo State, as the nation marks 65 years of independence from colonial rule on Wednesday, October 1, 2025.
Nigeria gained independence on October 1, 1960, following the struggles of its founding fathers, including Sir Ahmadu Bello, Obafemi Awolowo, and Dr. Nnamdi Azikiwe, who championed freedom from British colonial dominance. Prior to independence, the country had been amalgamated in 1914 from the Northern and Southern Protectorates, along with the Colony of Lagos, to form what became Nigeria.
In a statement issued by the group, Adeyanju described the independence anniversary as a celebration of national freedom, unity, and progress, while reflecting on the achievements of the nation’s forefathers and the hope for a greater future.
“Happy Independence Day!” the statement read.
“This is a celebration of freedom, unity, and progress. It reflects the achievements of our forefathers and points us toward a beautiful future. This day renews our aspirations for a stronger and more prosperous nation. It refreshes our minds and encourages us to uphold patriotism, bridge divisions, and work together for the betterment of our country, focusing on our collective potential and a shared dream of greatness.”
The group further emphasized its commitment to building the nation through unity, solidarity, resilience, perseverance, and patriotism.
“We wish our nation fruitfulness and success in all her steps. We see a greater Nigeria in our unity and willingness to serve selflessly. With enduring strength, national pride, and a shared heritage, we remain committed to economic reforms and the promotion of good governance,” the statement added.
