ASHENEWS reports that the National Association of Niger State Students (NANISS) has sensitized students on the dangers of political violence during the forthcoming elections.
The President of NANISS at the Federal University of Technology (FUT) Minna, Ibrahim Nuhu said that young people have the numbers to decide the next group of leaders that would pilot the affairs of the country.
Nuhu said that there is a need to educate young people on the dangers of engaging in violent acts during the elections having observed that youth restiveness usually mars elections in Nigeria.
“Oftentimes, we are addressed as leaders of tomorrow but tomorrow doesn’t seem to be close by.
“We, therefore, organized this program to serve as a wake-up call to prepare us as we get ready to take the baton of leadership.
“This is why we are here to discuss what awaits us and our fate as young people,” he said.
On his part, the Chairman of the National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN), Niger State Chapter, Abdullahi Muhammad Ishaq said that it has become imperative for young people to take an active part in the electioneering process in the country.
Ishaq said that young people have too much at stake to choose to stay inactive.
According to him, the numerous interest of young people would go unrepresented if they fail to play their part as decision-makers.
He also maintained that the NYCN as a youth group has no preferred candidate in the forthcoming elections.
“We are a non-partisan body and will only work with the government in power,” he said.
He, therefore, advised young people to identify their potential as change makers and make informed decisions during the 2023 elections.
“Vote for those who are sincere in their quest to make life better for young people.
“We must also learn to do away with the act of money politics. This singular reason remains a major factor leading to violence during elections,” he advised.
