Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida, IBB, former military president has described vice president Yemi Osinbajo as more worthy to contest for the office of president during the 2023 general elections.
IBB stated this when he received the Osibanjo Grassroot Organization which visited him at his Hilltop residence in Minna, Niger state capital on Thursday.
The former president described Osinbajo as a personality that the nation should look up to for leadership, adding that he is a good man to lead Nigeria.
IBB only recently pegged age bracket for the next Nigerian leader, which pulled out the duo of former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and former Lagos state Governor Bola Tinubu.
According to the former president, Osinbajo is a man that can mobilise and engineer growth in the country.
“I know the Vice President very well. He is a good man. A man, who has conviction about Nigeria; a man, who can communicate with the country and inspire people. Such a man is worthy person to work with. We need good man to lead Nigeria.
“Nigeria is a good country too; the people of Nigeria are good. You must learn to understand people and communicate with them. And constant discussion is key.
“I want to convey my best wishes to the Vice President through you. And I want you to tell him to stay on cause. I know it’s not easy but he has the conviction. I wish him the best,” Babangida said.
Reacting, the National Convener of the Organization, Ojo Foluso expressed joy for IBB’s endorsement of Osinbajo.
“We came to consult the Oracle and the Oracle has spoken. General IBB is an oracle because he understands Nigeria”.
He also stated that the group would continue to pressure on the Osinbajo to pick interest in contesting for the presidency in the 2023 general elections.
The Team Leader, Emma Ejiofor noted that the Osibanjo Grassroot Organization was prepared to work with the advice of prominent citizens such as Gen. Babangida, especially, because of their sound knowledge and understanding of the country.
“At this moment, Nigeria is in dire need of leaders with conviction and passion for her development and growth,” he added.
