ASHENEWS reports that the Niger state governor, Mohammed Umaru Bago says that his administration has attracted over $1 billion in investments in the state’s agricultural sector.
Bago stated this during a meeting with the Minister of Agriculture and Food Security, Abubakar Kyari at his office in Abuja.
According to him, the state has identified agriculture as an outlet to create jobs, promote foreign exchange, and also ensure food sufficiency.
To achieve this, he said that the state has invested heavily to boost irrigation farming.
He noted that the government has procured irrigation pumps which would soon be distributed to farmers in the state.
On the purpose of his visit to the minister, Bago said that the government was offering itself as a pilot state for Agricultural development in the country.
Speaking further, the minister said that the federal government will support multifaceted interventions towards agricultural development at the subnational levels.
He hinted that additional effort is needed to increase the number of extension agents available across states.
He also urged states to increase the capacity and well-being of the existing ones to boost food production, reduce food price inflation, and enhance the welfare of farmers and overall productivity.
