ASHENEWS reports that the governments of Niger and Lagos states have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) aimed at strengthening the supply of food between the two states.
The MoU was signed by the Niger State Governor Mohammed Umaru Bago on behalf of the Niger State government while Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu signed for the Lagos State government on Wednesday in Lagos.
The MoU, signed under the Produce-For-Lagos initiative will provide farmers in Niger State a ready market to off-take their agricultural produce to meet the food demand of Lagos residents.
This, the Niger state government said will also help in ensuring availability and stability of food prices.
A statement issued by the Chief Press Secretary
to the Governor of Niger State, Bologi Ibrahim said that the agricultural produce under the agreement includes paddy rice, tubers, legumes, and grains.
“It is a long-term strategic partnership between both States that would create a ready supply of farm produce directly from the ongoing massive Lagos Food logistics hub in Ketu Ereyun, Epe.
“This move further demonstrates the determination of Farmer Governor Umaru Bago to ensure that the food security policy of his administration and that of the Federal government is realized.
“The Farmer Governor reiterated that Niger State has all it takes to feed the Nation and even export to other nations hence, he is not relenting in attaining the goal, noting that the State is ready to partner with more States as part of efforts to boost national policy on food security,” the statement said.
