The Kulen Allah Cattle Rearers Association of Nigeria (KACRAN) says the Northeast Development Commission’s (NEDC) extensive support to pastoralists will help address security challenges in the region.
The association’s National President, Mr Khalid Muhammad, stated this in a statement issued on Sunday in Damaturu.
Muhammad commended the commission for installing solar-powered boreholes in Dangel Lantaiwa and Siddikiyo Jauro Gambo Ribadu wards in Yobe and Gombe states, respectively.
“These projects provide a vital lifeline to thousands of pastoralists and their livestock by addressing the critical challenge of water scarcity in grazing and concentration centres,” he said.
Muhammad described the NEDC as a model of responsive governance, noting that the commission had demonstrated strong commitment to alleviating hardship and improving social services beyond conventional expectations.
He advocated greater inclusion of livestock development in the NEDC’s 2026 policies, projects and programmes to ensure that pastoralists benefit equitably alongside other residents of the region.
“We are pleased with the commission’s positive response to this appeal. This willingness to listen and adjust programmes reflects the sterling leadership qualities of the current management,” he said.
Muhammad also applauded the commission’s consistency in prioritizing projects that promote peace and unity across the North-East.
He called on the Federal Government to provide adequate funding for the NEDC in the 2026 budget to enable it to effectively execute its mandate.
According to him, sustained collaboration among the NEDC, North-East governors, local government chairmen, security agencies and traditional rulers will be crucial to the rapid reconstruction and rehabilitation of the region after more than a decade of insurgency.
