The Kaduna State Government has validated revised agricultural policy documents aimed at improving food production, strengthening food systems and boosting agribusiness in the state.
The State Commissioner for Agriculture, Mr Murtala Dabo, disclosed this on Thursday in Kaduna at a roundtable meeting held under the Policy on Agricultural Systems Strengthening (PASS).
It was reported that the PASS programme is supported by the Alliance for a Green Revolution in Africa (AGRA), with technical assistance from Synergos.
Dabo said the review reflected the commitment of the administration of Gov. Uba Sani to revitalizing the agricultural sector since assuming office in May 2023.
“This process demonstrates the commitment of the present administration to transforming agriculture in the state through strong and sustainable policies,” he said.
The commissioner explained that clear and robust policies were essential to guide farmers, investors and agribusiness operators, while also encouraging long-term growth in the sector.
According to him, the revised policies are expected to improve food supply, attract investment, create jobs and support farmers in both rural and urban areas.
Dabo added that the programme also included leadership training designed to build the skills and knowledge of young professionals working in the agricultural sector, particularly within government institutions.
He said the overall goal was to enhance food security, stimulate economic growth and ensure that agriculture remained profitable and sustainable in the state.
Also speaking, the Country Director of Synergos Nigeria, Mr Victor Adejoh, said the meeting marked the final stage of the policy review process.
“This roundtable represents the final validation to ensure that all inputs from earlier engagements are fully reflected in the documents,” Adejoh said.
He explained that the documents reviewed included the Kaduna State Agricultural Policy and the Agricultural Investment Plan, which are expected to guide agribusiness activities and identify crops in which the state has a comparative advantage.
According to Adejoh, the revised agricultural policy builds on the state’s first policy developed in 2020 and is informed by data from the State Bureau of Statistics to strengthen investor confidence.
He added that the policies, expected to cover the 2025–2028 period, would be presented to the Kaduna State Executive Council for approval.
It was reported that AGRA funded the policy review process, while Synergos provided technical support.
