The Jigawa State Government has entered a strategic partnership with El-Meena Farms to accelerate the production of Alfalfa, a high-protein flowering plant commonly processed for animal feed in the dairy industry.
Sagir Musa, Commissioner for Information, Youth, and Sports, announced the collaboration during a news conference following the State Executive Council (SEC) meeting on Friday in Dutse.
Musa said the partnership, supported by the Nigeria Export-Import Bank (NEXIM Bank) and the Saudi Export-Import Bank (Saudi EXIM Bank), represents a major step in Jigawa’s drive to diversify its economy, enhance agricultural productivity, and strengthen the livestock and dairy sectors.
“The partnership will enable large-scale cultivation, processing, and export of high-quality Alfalfa,” he said, noting that the project is expected to generate over $400 million in economic value.

He added, “The project will create more than 100,000 direct jobs and 500,000 indirect jobs, while empowering farmers, boosting rural livelihoods, and attracting foreign investment. This initiative positions Jigawa as a leading hub for Alfalfa production and export in Sub-Saharan Africa.”
Musa reiterated the state government’s commitment to sustainable agricultural transformation through private-sector-driven growth to enhance global competitiveness.
