The Hadejia Jama’are River Basin Development Authority (HJRBDA) has reaffirmed its commitment to supporting the Federal Government’s food security agenda through backyard farming, in line with the First Lady’s pet project, Everyone Has a Garden.
The Managing Director of the authority, Mr Rabiu Bichi, disclosed this shortly after inspecting a pilot Irish potato farm within the HJRBDA premises.
Bichi said the initiative was designed to sensitize and train young men and women on innovative farming practices that make effective use of limited space.
According to him, the project aims to enhance food availability and reduce dependence on external sources.
He explained that the pilot phase involves the use of 100 sacks for Irish potato cultivation, with each sack expected to yield hundreds of tubers.
Bichi added that the authority plans to train more than 5,000 young women and men on this cost-effective and space-saving farming method.
