The All Farmers Association of Nigeria (AFAN), Osun State chapter, has announced plans to commence the digital registration of farmers across the state.
The State Chairman of AFAN, Mr. Ganiyu Musefiu, disclosed this in an interview on Saturday in Osogbo.
Musefiu explained that the national body of AFAN had already embarked on the digital registration of members nationwide, adding that the Osun chapter would kick off its exercise in the coming weeks once all modalities are finalized and a date officially announced.
According to him, the digital registration will enable farmers in the state to benefit from various agricultural programmes facilitated by both the government and AFAN.
He added that, in line with the association’s commitment to improving farmers’ welfare, a central information unit with a toll-free line had been established to handle farmers’ inquiries and complaints.
Musefiu urged farmers in Osun to take advantage of the registration to formalize their membership and access available opportunities.
The AFAN chairman also appealed to the state government to prioritize agriculture and provide greater support to farmers, noting that such measures would encourage youth participation in farming and strengthen food security.
He warned that the state could face food shortages if supplies from other regions were disrupted, stressing the need for increased local production.
Musefiu further advised that government agricultural interventions should target genuine and practicing farmers to ensure effective implementation and impact.
