The Borno State Government has donated the sum of N300 million to victims of the devastating flood disaster in Mokwa Local Government Area of Niger State.
Governor Babagana Zulum announced the donation on Tuesday during a condolence visit to Governor Umaru Bago at the Niger State Government House in Minna.
Zulum, who led a high-powered delegation from Borno, said the gesture is aimed at supporting the Niger State Government’s ongoing efforts to cushion the effects of the disaster, which claimed lives and displaced numerous residents.
While sympathising with the government and people of Niger State, Governor Zulum emphasized the urgent need for collective action among subnational governments to mitigate the growing impacts of climate change.
“This disaster is a wake-up call. We must all come together—state and federal authorities—to find lasting solutions to these recurring challenges,” he said.
He further urged the Federal Government to establish a robust and sustainable mechanism to manage and prevent natural disasters across the country.
In his response, Governor Mohammed Bago commended Zulum’s solidarity and generosity, describing the gesture as both timely and heartfelt.
“This donation reflects true leadership and compassion. It also strengthens the bond between our states,” Bago stated.
Governor Bago assured that the funds would be judiciously used to support affected communities. He also reiterated ongoing public awareness campaigns urging residents to avoid building or farming along flood-prone areas.
