The Sokoto State Coordinator of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), Usman Yakubu Yaro, has called on the state government to recognize and reward corps members who make outstanding contributions to the development of their host communities.
He made this appeal while commissioning community projects facilitated by a corps member, Yaseera Aliyu Wamakko, at Muhammad Bidda Primary School, Arkilla, and the NYSC State Secretariat in Wamakko Local Government Area of Sokoto State.
Yaro praised Yaseera for her exceptional commitment and initiative, describing her efforts as a model for others to emulate.
“She has excelled by distinguishing herself through a project that directly benefits her host community,” he said, adding that she “came, saw, and conquered.”
The coordinator emphasized that every corps member is expected to leave their host community better than they met it, stating, “Yaseera has done just that.”
He urged other corps members in the state to follow her example by engaging in impactful Community Development Service (CDS) projects. He also called on the state and local governments to honour her with a state merit award, while assuring that the NYSC management would advocate for her to receive national recognition.
In her remarks, Yaseera expressed gratitude to Senator Aliyu Magatakarda Wamakko, the NYSC management, and others who supported the project. She said the projects were aimed at bringing joy and meaningful improvement to the community, aligning with the state’s current educational priorities.
“The projects I executed were designed to bring joy and improvement to my host community,” she said, visibly elated.
The Sokoto State Commissioner for Basic and Secondary Education, Professor Ladan Alhassan, also commended Yaseera for her tireless efforts. He encouraged the school’s management to maintain the facilities and urged students to be punctual and committed to their studies.
The commissioned projects include the renovation of two classrooms and provision of 60 classroom desks at Muhammad Bidda Primary School, Arkilla. Others are the renovation of two toilets and the installation of an overhead tank and water system at the NYSC Sokoto State Secretariat along Kalambaina Road.
