The Ondo State Government has sealed off the site of a two-storey building that collapsed at the Adegbola area of Akure, the state capital.
The building, which was under construction, reportedly collapsed at about 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday, leaving several site workers injured.
The Commissioner for Physical Planning and Urban Development, Mr Sunday Olajide, ordered the immediate sealing of the construction site.
Olajide, who visited the scene on Tuesday evening with officials of the ministry, said the state government had commenced investigations to determine the cause of the collapse and prevent a recurrence.

The commissioner warned building contractors and developers in the state against the use of substandard building materials, noting that such practices could result in avoidable loss of lives and property.
“This is a call to all developers and building contractors to always secure the necessary permits and approvals before commencing construction projects and to strictly adhere to approved standards during construction,” he said.
Olajide, who confirmed that no life was lost in the incident, expressed concern that several workers sustained varying degrees of injuries.
He added that although the site had been sealed, further actions would be taken based on the findings of the investigation.
