The Niger State government has awarded a N7 billion contract for the construction of a 12-kilometre road linking Mokwa and Rabba communities, including four new bridges.

Governor Mohammed Umar Bago announced this during an on-the-spot assessment and sympathy visit to Mokwa, following a recent devastating flood that claimed lives and destroyed properties worth millions of naira.

He said the project will begin immediately and is aimed at reconnecting communities and restoring access that was lost due to the flood.

The governor also directed relevant ministries and agencies to carry out a comprehensive survey of the state’s waterways and topography, with a view to relocating residents living along flood-prone coastal areas to prevent future disasters.

He urged residents to remain united and avoid divisive sentiments, particularly in times of hardship, while reaffirming the government’s continued commitment to citizens’ welfare.

As part of the visit, symbolic relief materials were distributed to selected households affected by the flood.

Governor Bago also visited Rabba to assess the collapsed bridge and sympathize with residents of the community.
