The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) has distributed relief materials to victims of the 2025 flooding and windstorm in Eket Federal Constituency, Akwa Ibom State.
The items distributed included rice, garri, spaghetti, vegetable oil, tomatoes, seasonings, and salt, among others.
Speaking at the event in Ibeno on Wednesday, Mrs Mmandu Aisueni, Head of NEMA Operations in Akwa Ibom, said the gesture reflects the Federal Government’s support for the affected communities.
Represented by Mr Akpakpan Victor, Head of Relief and Rehabilitation, Aisueni urged beneficiaries to make good use of the items to improve their welfare.
“It is with mixed emotions that we gather here today. We are saddened by the devastating impacts of the recent flooding and windstorm. The effects of these disasters have been deeply felt in these communities, with property and sources of livelihood destroyed,” she said.
“Today, we are distributing these items not just as a gesture of support, but as a demonstration of our shared humanity and commitment,” Aisueni added, stressing that proactive measures are critical to preventing similar disasters in the future.
Also speaking, Mr Okpolupm Etteh, the Member representing Eket Federal Constituency, said the relief materials aim to support affected families. Represented by Mr Ekoakwaha Etteh, he thanked the Federal Government for the timely intervention, describing it as well-intentioned.
