ASHENEWS reports that the family of the late Emir of Borgu, Senator Haliru Dantoro is seeking the intervention by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to address the unauthorized use of their ancestral land by Gilmor Engineering Nigeria Limited.
The call, ASHENEWS learnt is because the family feels the President’s intervention would make a great impact as they have explored all means to address the issue but have not been able to.
The disputed land, located in New Bussa in Borgu local government area of Niger state has been utilized as a quarry site for the federal road rehabilitation project on the New Bussa-Kaiama 79km road since 2019.
The family lamented that despite the significant negative impact on their property, Gilmor Engineering has operated on their land for nearly five years without consultation or permission.
“Since the project was awarded by the Federal Ministry of Works and Housing in 2019, our family was never consulted about the use of our land for quarry extraction,” stated the family spokesperson, Murtala Dantoro to journalists. “This lack of consultation and disregard for our family’s rights is not only unjust but also a violation of our inheritance.”
The Dantoro family who emphasized the need for a fair and immediate resolution to the unauthorized use of their land stated that appealing directly to President Tinubu would enable them to get the justice they deserve.
“We want President Tinubu to intervene and prompt Gilmor Engineering and the Federal Ministry of Works and Housing to address the matter urgently.
“We are simply asking for proper engagement and respect regarding the use of our land,” the family stressed. “This issue requires immediate attention and fairness.”
