The Kogi State Government has restated its commitment to fighting erosion and flooding by building infrastructure that will provide lasting solutions to environmental challenges in the state.
Speaking in Lokoja on Saturday, the Commissioner for Information and Communications, Kingsley Femi Fanwo, said Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo’s administration is determined to reshape Kogi with practical projects that ensure safety, sustainability, and better living standards for the people.
He noted that new drainage systems built in parts of the state—such as Etahi, Omigbo, and Olubojo in Ankpa—are already showing positive results. “Our drains are working well. Rainwater is being collected and channeled away quickly, reducing the risk of flooding. Within minutes of heavy rain, the water clears off, keeping communities safe and accessible,” he explained.
The Commissioner also revealed that the government is using the Agro-Climatic Resilience in Semi-Arid Landscapes (ACReSAL) Project to strengthen flood control and reclaim land that had been damaged by erosion.
According to him, “Kogi ACReSAL under Barr. Ladi Jatto has become a game-changer for this administration. We are making the most of the opportunities it provides to deliver lasting solutions to environmental problems.”
Fanwo added that these environmental projects reflect Governor Ododo’s vision of building strong and resilient communities with sustainable solutions that meet the state’s unique challenges.
“Kogi is no longer just reacting to disasters,” he said. “We are now taking proactive steps by building infrastructure that prevents them. This marks a new beginning in our fight against flooding and for environmental sustainability.”
