Due to constant heavy rain, many parts of Nigeria are facing serious floods. These floods have affected several states, blocked roads, damaged homes, and caused many businesses to lose money.
The flooding is getting worse because many drainages are blocked and the country lacks proper infrastructure. This has led to severe traffic jams and left many people stuck on the roads.
People living in affected areas say that flooding keeps happening. In some places, the water levels are so high that people can’t move around easily.
Nigeria usually gets a lot of rain each year. This heavy rain often causes serious flooding in many parts of the country.
States Most Affected by Flooding:
- Lagos State
In Lagos, many people, including popular figures, have shared their sad experiences with flooding. Some of the worst-hit places are Lekki, Mile 2, Orchid Road, and Maryland. - Niger State
Niger State has many rivers, especially the River Niger, which is the longest river in Nigeria. When it rains heavily, the drainage systems can’t handle the water. Areas like Lapai and Lokoja often get flooded because they are close to the river. - Kebbi State
Kebbi often floods because of its natural location and landscape. Some of the areas that flood the most include Gwandu, Jega, and Kamba. - Borno State
Floods in Borno have destroyed property and even caused deaths. The worst-affected places include Dikwa and Maidukamba. - Gombe State
Flooding in Gombe is caused by heavy rain, poor city planning, and building in risky areas. Bad drainage and a growing population make the problem worse. - Benue State
In Benue, places like Aggi, Gogo, Makurdi, and Otukpo often experience serious floods every year. - Nasarawa State
Nasarawa is located near rivers and is known to be a high-risk area for flooding. Rapid population growth, poor planning, and heavier rainfall—partly due to climate change—are all making the flooding worse.
