The Foundation for Environmental Rights, Advocacy & Development (FENRAD) has congratulated Mrs. Omotenioye Majekodunmi on her appointment as the Director-General and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the National Council on Climate Change (NCCC), describing it as a timely and transformative development.
In a statement signed by its Executive Director, Comrade Nelson Nnanna Nwafor, FENRAD described the appointment as a critical step for Nigeria’s climate governance, especially at a time when the country faces mounting environmental and developmental challenges linked to climate change.
“With the increasing urgency of climate action, this role demands visionary leadership. We believe Mrs. Majekodunmi is eminently qualified to provide just that,” the statement read.
FENRAD commended Mrs. Majekodunmi’s track record in environmental stewardship, policy innovation, and institutional development, expressing optimism that the new NCCC boss will accelerate Nigeria’s implementation of its Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs), promote climate-smart policies, and strengthen the nation’s participation in international climate negotiations.
The organization also pledged its commitment to partnering with the NCCC under Majekodunmi’s leadership to advance the country’s climate goals.
“As a leading civil society organization committed to environmental rights and sustainable development, FENRAD is ready to collaborate with the NCCC in critical areas such as climate advocacy, policy research, grassroots mobilization, monitoring and evaluation of climate programmes, and capacity building for vulnerable communities,” it stated.
FENRAD emphasized the need for strong collaboration between government institutions and civil society actors to achieve a just, inclusive, and climate-resilient Nigeria.
The group concluded by extending its “heartfelt congratulations” to Mrs. Majekodunmi and wishing her success in what it described as “a vital chapter of public service.”
