A mining company has started the construction of an 8-kilometre road along Ubegbu–Onuavia in Ihietutu Community, Ivo Local Government Area of Ebonyi State.
The road project is sponsored by Ambertone Logistics Company, which operates in the community.
Mr. Ebuka Iwuji, a senior staff member of the company, told reporters on Tuesday that the contract was awarded to FELJESON Nigeria Ltd, an indigenous firm, at the cost of N3 billion.
He explained that the project is expected to be completed in four months, with December set as the delivery date.
According to him, the road starts from the Ihietutu town hall at Ubegu and stretches to the company’s mining site at Onuavia. It will also provide farmers with easier access to their farmlands and other benefits.
Iwuji stressed that the road construction is not part of the company’s Community Development Agreement (CDA) but an additional gesture to support the host community.
He added that the project was given to a contractor from the community and fully funded by Ambertone Logistics.
“When completed, the road will make it easier for farmers to move their produce and bring more development to the area,” he said.
Iwuji also said the company is committed to infrastructure and human development in the community where it operates.
“This is our business base, and we must help improve the lives of the people here. When the community is happy, God will bless our work and expand it,” he added.
He noted that the road will also improve access to the mining site and open up the community for more development.
Community members welcomed the project, describing it as timely and people-oriented.
A community leader, Mr. Bernard Chukwu, said the road will transform farming and trading activities in the area.
“We are very grateful because this has been one of our biggest challenges. Farmers will now move their crops more easily, and traders will have better access to markets,” he said.
Another resident, Mr. Jeremiah Okoro, praised the company for also supporting youth empowerment, peace, and security in the community.
“Ambertone has been living up to its promises under the CDA and continues to help us in many ways,” he said.
Mr. Kingsley Onyebuchi described the project as a clear sign of the company’s goodwill.
“All we can do is pray for the company to prosper more and for God to bless them for remembering us,” he added.
