Dr Ibrahim Goni, the Conservator-General (C-G) of the National Park Service (NPS), on Friday in Abuja urged retiring staff members to engage in meaningful post-service activities to ensure sustainable livelihoods.
Goni made the call at the pull-out ceremony held in honor of Conservator of Parks (CP) Abubakar Kaigama.
He said proactive preparation was necessary to maintain stability after retirement.
He also urged serving officers to build lasting legacies and mentor others who would carry on their responsibilities.
Goni commended Kaigama for his outstanding service, emphasizing that he is an intelligent, patient and proactive officer who has served at various levels and locations.
“I worked with him when I was the editor-in-chief of the Nigerian Parks magazine. We met at several forums. I particularly remember one of our meetings at Gashaka Gumti National Park,” Goni said.
Responding, Kaigama, the immediate past CP of Chad Basin National Park, thanked the service for the opportunity to serve in various departments.
“Working in the National Park Service taught me patience, resilience and the value of teamwork.
“The National Park Service has become a reference point in the conduct and management of protected areas in Nigeria.
“It has been a privilege to serve in various capacities within the National Park Service,” Kaigama said.
