The All Progressives Congress Climate Change Network (ACCN) has urged the party to adopt sector-specific climate policies to strengthen Nigeria’s response to the global climate crisis.
At its inaugural Climate Policy Dialogue in Abuja, National Coordinator Dr. Greg Odogwu said the group would present 95 recommendations—tagged “95 Theses”—to the APC leadership as part of its constitutional review.
“This is the time for clear, concise, sector-specific climate action. We must teach Nigerians how to build dams against floods, embrace clean energy, and promote climate-smart agriculture,” Odogwu said.
Environmental expert Dr. Murtala Mohammed also called for political commitment, noting that climate change is now a “lived reality in Nigeria.” He urged parties to embed green growth into manifestos, mobilise young people and rural farmers, and strengthen partnerships with civil society and global institutions.
Hamzat Lawal, Founder of Connected Development (CODE), said the initiative was timely ahead of the 2027 elections, stressing that “millions of green voters” are directly impacted by climate change.
