The Yobe State Government has recruited 948 primary school teachers as part of efforts to bridge the manpower gap in basic education across the state.
This was contained in a statement issued on Sunday in Damaturu by Mamman Mohammed, Director-General, Press and Media Affairs to Governor Mai Mala Buni.
According to the statement, the recruitment exercise was disclosed by the Executive Chairman of the State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB), Dr. Umaru Babayo, after a meeting with Governor Buni.
Mohammed said most of the newly recruited teachers had been serving as volunteer instructors in various schools across the state without formal government engagement.
The statement quoted Babayo as saying that the board had commenced workshops and training programmes to equip the new teachers with additional teaching skills for more effective and efficient knowledge delivery.
“The board is organising workshops for the new recruits to acquire additional skills on teaching for effective and efficient dissemination of knowledge to the pupils,” Babayo said.
He urged the teachers to remain committed and dedicated to their duties in order to justify the confidence reposed in them by the government.
Babayo further assured that SUBEB would intensify monitoring and inspection to ensure productivity and value for government investment in the education sector.
Mohammed added that Governor Buni directed the board to ensure that only qualified candidates were engaged in the recruitment exercise.
“The board should ensure proper training of the new teachers to get the best out of them.
The government will continue to support the board to promote efficiency and productivity in order to achieve the state’s goal of taking education to greater heights,” Buni stated.
