The Joint Admission and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has said it did not approve the purported admission of candidates into the Law Faculty of , insisting that the admissions were not processed through its official platform.
The Board, reacting to accusations of dereliction over the development, stated that the admissions were not conducted through the Central Admissions Processing System (CAPS), the only platform authorised for processing admissions into tertiary institutions in Nigeria.
According to JAMB, any admission not processed through CAPS is invalid and cannot be recognised by the Board.
In a statement issued by its Public Communications Advisor, Dr Fabian Benjamin, the Board stressed that the institution is currently not authorised to admit students into its law programme until the expiration of the suspension placed on the faculty.
“The said admissions are void as they are unknown to the Board,” JAMB said.
The Board said the development underscores the need for candidates to heed its repeated warning against accepting admission offers outside CAPS, noting that such admissions are considered fake.
JAMB further cautioned that candidates who accept such irregular offers cannot lay legitimate claim to the admissions, as they would be deemed complicit in the process.
The Board advised affected candidates to disregard any admission offered outside CAPS and instead apply for the next Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) to pursue legitimate admission through approved procedures.
It also warned universities against attempting to legitimise irregular admissions through inter-university transfers, stating that such transfers would not be endorsed unless the candidate was originally admitted through CAPS.
“For a transfer to be valid, the candidate must have been validly admitted in the first instance,” the Board added.
JAMB reaffirmed its commitment to enforcing admission regulations and said it would continue to discharge its responsibilities in line with established laws and guidelines governing tertiary education admissions in the country.
