An NGO, Save the Children International (SCI), on Thursday inaugurated the distribution of uniforms and learning materials to over 6,000 students across 18 communities in Chikun and Igabi Local Government Areas of Kaduna State.
Favour Iloma, SCI’s Education Officer in Kaduna, said the beneficiaries were selected from 6,234 out-of-school children enrolled in non-formal classes between June and August 2025.
“We initially enrolled 6,234 out-of-school children in alternative learning centres across 18 communities in the two LGAs,” she explained. “These children underwent three months of literacy and numeracy lessons under the Education Cannot Wait (ECW) Project.”

Iloma added, “Baseline assessments were conducted in June and end-line assessments in September. Those who reached an advanced level were moved to formal classes, while others remained in non-formal classes.”
Beneficiaries expressed gratitude to the NGO for facilitating their enrollment in school, noting that they are now able to read and write, unlike before.
The items distributed included school uniforms, school bags, exercise books, pens, and erasers.
The distribution was part of successes showcased at the end of a three-day capacity-building training for journalists from Adamawa and Katsina States, held in Kaduna.
