Over 1,000 young people, including those with physical disabilities, took part in the Enugu Career Fair.
The event was organized by Jobberman Nigeria with support from the Mastercard Foundation.
The fair took place in Enugu and aimed to help job seekers meet employers. It also gave them useful skills to succeed in today’s job market.
Innih Ikhide, Head of Youth Engagement at Jobberman Nigeria, said the event focused on the large youth population in the state.
“At Jobberman, we believe talent exists everywhere,” Ikhide said. “This fair helps young people, including those with disabilities, meet employers and find good jobs.”
Francis Uka, the keynote speaker and General Manager of 100.3 Udoka FM, advised participants to learn both technical and soft skills. He also encouraged them to think like entrepreneurs and use technology and AI to stand out in the job market.
Umunna Chuka, State Controller at the Federal Ministry of Labour and Employment, praised the event. He said the government would continue to support such efforts.
He also mentioned that over 1,000 youths had already been trained by the ministry, and job centres were running across the state
“If we work with Jobberman and the Mastercard Foundation, we can reduce unemployment,” he said. “Youth will not only find jobs, they can also create them.”
The event featured a panel discussion on job strategies, job-matching sessions where some attendees were hired on the spot, and a trade fair where trained entrepreneurs showcased their products.
Attendees said the fair had a big impact on them. David Samuel said it helped him feel more confident. Nnenna Igwe shared that she actually got a job offer during the event:
“I didn’t just leave my CV—I got hired. It’s a dream come true.”Entrepreneur Dr. Joseph Omeje said he made sales and met new contacts at the event.
The Enugu Career Fair showed Jobberman’s commitment to fighting youth unemployment by linking people’s skills with job opportunities, and making sure no one, including those with disabilities, is left out.
